Cloudy Days
Hi Ive got a 2 year old hermanns, who Ive been putting outside when weather is good, but to day it is very cloudy, no sun temps around 17/18, would it be ok to put her out when its like this? She has a cold frame attached to her enclosure which I have just got, also one of the box hides that has a lid and a flap on the front,Im a bit concerned if I put he out it wont be warm enough, some one once suggested that u could put a tubular heater in the box which I could do as I have access to electricity would this help? any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Should be fine. Rule of thumb seems to be that if you can stay outside in a t-shirt, it's fine for tortoises. 10C is the cut off imo.

If you rig up a tube heater in a hut or a ceramic heat emitter, on thermostats set at 21c or about's, it will allow your tort to stay out most of the year with another addition of a cold frame.

She already has a large cold frame attached to her enclosure along with the wooden hide.

I would say that it wouldnt do any harm I've had mine out from 8.30AM until around 9PM and they are really active from morning till about 4PM and then rest for the rest of the day when its cooler
I would say as long as its not so cold that you personally couldnt stand then have them in (Thats what i do ) On the other hand i know many people that have their torts out 24/7 from May till September...all weathers! and they seem just fine Scott x
