My snakes
I have four snakes, all different breeds. It's rather hard to juggle a snake and take photos on a touch screen phone at the same time, so they're not the best snake photos you'll ever see, but they'll do for now.
Valera the Miami Corn snake. She was our first snake, I remember bringing her home in a tiny Chinese takeaway box. She was no bigger around than my shoe lace. Righ the Royal(UK) or Ball(USA) Python. He's my fat lump. I got him as a tiny worm who wouldn't eat, so the fact that he's now a big, strong lump of muscle is fantastic. He's my baby and I love his little puppy face. Teannach the Boa Constrictor, he's still a juvenile, no where near full grown yet. He's still a lot bigger than he was when we got him at 6 weeks old though. And Nathair Mor, the Texas Yellow Rat snake(probably). He was a rescue. Someone had him in a viv with an unguarded heat lamp, and fed him live prey so he had burns and bites and scars. It's taken about 5 years to get him completely okay with being handled, he still does a weird muscle tense thing for the first few minutes though. |

I'm not a snake fan I'm afraid, but my son is and he'd love these photos. He volunteered at a local wildlife trust when he was younger and was the only one to handle the corn snake for quite some time.
He's working in a vets now and snakes come in occasionally so he's always happy to be involved in the consultation and any treatment. Sounds as if these are your babies and are well cared for. Dare I ask how big the boa is expected to get? He looks quite big and wide already.

The boa should get to about 2.5 metres, and he will be heavy and strong. The rule of thumb is that up to 6' of snake is safe for one person to handle, every 3' after that requires another person to help, (Or 1 less person than the length in metres) so when fully grown it will take two adults to safely handle him.
He might not make it to full size, he was a fussy eater when he was a hatchling, so that may have stunted him a bit, but he's still the strongest snake we have. If he is coiled around something, it's a two man job to make him let go, and it's not easy. |

I am definitely a big fan of snakes, I love them, I would love to have one, but I doubt it will ever happen. Very nice photos, thanks for sharing.

Teannach is quite possibly going to be a big boy then! I do love the photos of them enjoying the sun. I'd imagine you get a fair bit of attention when people see them - either loving them, scared of them or inquisitive about them.

I do! The kids that live around here will flock to the yard if they see me sat out with one of the snakes. I tend to sit out with them on nice sunny days. Snakes don't need UVA/B like tortoises and lizards do, but it doesn't hurt them to get some rays occasionally.
I tend to find the younger kids are really interested, and the older they are, the more scared they are. There are always a few of the older ones trying to look tough by being brave enough to touch the snake, being shown up by little ones who are totally unafraid. The parents usually stand well back and don't get too close. It's fun answering the door to Trick and Treaters at Halloween with a snake wrapped around my wrist and sweets in my hand, seeing who is brave enough to take some. I only do that with Righ, the royal python, he's totally bomb proof. The others would probably be fine, but Righ is the one I know best and is just chilled. |

I love the idea of answering the door on Halloween with a snake wrapped around you, that must get some squeals. I can remember when I was very young ( about 4 ish, we where at a zoo, somewhere, and the keeper had an enormous Python out, and asked if any brave person would like to handle this thing, my mum volunteered, it was a bigun! So I think that's why I'm not afraid of snakes. But as yet I have never been anywhere to actually hold one, and I would love to. They really are beautiful.
