Well don't Lynn , your very brave, but I think you did the right thing. Sounds like the little fella wouldn't have got out, now he stands a fighting chance. Keep us posted.

Hatchling is still alive & the yolk sac has reduced greatly.
New problem: Hatchling is in a pop top about an inch across, sat in Vaseline but because his sac has shrunk he now isn't big enough to fill top, sit up straight - he keeps tipping so is to one side. I have found a smaller top which I am now steralising. Im wondering if having just the sac in smaller top will encourage him to try & get out - damaging sac ?? or if its ok for him to be on his side?? (he is making no attempt to move) Which top is best? On his side should be just fine Lynn, as long as you get plenty of vasoline on the yolk sack so it doesn't dry out.

Would you offer a drink? or will he get what he needs from yolk sac? If yes, does it need to be cooled boiled water?

When Lulu was hatching a few weeks ago, she sat in her egg for two days with her head poking out, ( she had a large sac) she kept opening her mouth, so I offered her drops of water on the tip of my finger which she took, she was really thirsty. I gave her water straight from the tap, that might be wrong but she's ok.

If the sac has reduced right down to nearly gone maybe she would like a drink, I also used water from the tap

I have given hatchling a drink & this is the first time I have picked her up since peeling her egg! The yolk sac seems to stretch across her width ( I don't think this is normal?) Also the bubble type membrane that she was completely encased in to begin with still exists around her back end - the back legs are still inside it. Don't know if this is because the arms and head are exposed to the air & the back end has been sat in Vaseline? Or is it more of a deformity than that? That is a tiny one Lynn!
Does the clear membrane bit you are talking about sit around her like a pocket? it doesn't show up in the pics but she does look kind of long and narrow as if she can't expand because she is restricted. I wonder if this will stop the sac from fully absorbing because as that process happens it sort of fills up their tummy doesn't it. The sac looks a good healthy colour still |
