My enclosures have Lavender, Rosemary, Hebe, Carex, pansies, plantain, sowthistle and whatever weeds come up from the seeds I sow in the autumn. They usually start off with a bit of a forest to munch through in late spring, but the Hebes and Carex are the big favourites to hide under to cool off in the summer and have a nice nap.
Have fun designing your outside enclosure.

These might give you a bit of an idea. On this one I used think metal plus polycarb on the top although I have since taken away the thick metal as it stopped a lot of light the polycarb is strong stuff on its own.
However if you made it so it lifts up and stays up and have separate frame with sunmaster clear or Lumisol clear polythene over the top this will allow the UV through then at night or when the weather is bad close the polycarb lid. http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...t=daryn&page=4 Here is another small suntrap I use infact I use a few of them now dotted around but you could replace the polycarb with with the sunmaster clear or Lumisol clear polythene which allows UV through and is used on some polytunnels thats what I will be doing this year, these are brilliant little sun traps and get nice and hot. http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...ighlight=daryn This is another I made for a friend which will have a fence coming off the side of it this year for a run in the garden outside. The lid is sunmaster clear and it worked a treat however we used the polycarb on top at night and again when the weather was poor. This is an ongoing project. http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...ighlight=daryn Hope these help give you some ideas. |
