Hungry and Hibernation

Hi,
None of my 3 seem to want to wind down. They are all still so hungry everyday. I want to hibernate them next month with the wind down to start in a couple of weeks so I have an idea that I want to run past you all.

I think they might not think it is winter as it only ever drops to about 18-17oC in their room at night so, what if I was to pop them in a box (the one I am using to hibernate them in the fridge with) and put them in the utility room each evening. It is about 12oC in there.

Do you think this might make them realise it is winter or do you think it would stress them out being moved every evening?

nope, cant do that, our house is open plan and no doors for 4 rooms. dont want the heating that low in the whole house or heat the garden.

Lower night time temperatures are one of the triggers for hibernation so I think the idea would help. They might be less stressed by moving if they went to bed in their usual place and were moved once they were settled - ideally when they were already asleep. I think they would be unlikely to be active in the cooler room.

If it's any help, I put mine in box when it's really cold and move them to a warmer room as I over winter, so in theory I can't see why it wouldn't work the other the way round.

I wait until they are a sleep and i pop then back in their tables in the morning. I've never noticed any change in them and they seem happy enough with the arrangement.

Of course you could just leave the heat lamps off and just put them on for an hour or so every other day. they are not going to be very active without a heat source above.
