Horrible to see but when you hear what some people feed their pets I'm not surprised.
No excuse in this day and age,so much information available.

I will point out in case anybody didn't read:

To All The Haters. This was a one time only incident and it happened months ago. I was put straight that this was extremely bad for my turtles.
This was there when the vid was first posted on this forum (well about 2 mins after when I first clicked).

As the vid was uploaded in May 07 and he says a few months ago, I think its safe to assume this hasn't happened for a while

The one at the end furthest away looked a little hacked off although he had a very smooth shell.

could it be because he wasn't getting his share.

I would never suggest feeding tinned dog or cat food to ANY tortoise. I think the problem is the fats and oils... not the protein.

the owner has said it was a one-off and now knows not to feed that. there are lots of people out there who feed their animals by what they have been told. possibly not a one-off but if the owner now doesn't feed dog food that's a bonus. they are unlikely to sign up here for advice though if they are getting slated for having done it in the first place

OMG! I cant belive this. After showing it to my Mother-in-law she said she used to feed her childhood torty like this too. That was some 40 years ago though. I find it crazy with all the top of the range items you need to care for them so easy to get hold of why put the poor little things though a hard life

little bit sad now ... poor tortys

Alan,

I agree. I don't think it will serve any purpose now for everyone to keep posting "shock-horror" messages. We all know it's wrong and so does the owner.
