Pyramiding shell?

Hi guys,
Was just giving Flo and Favela a bath and noticed the difference in their shells. Flo has what I presume is pyramiding?! But Favelas shell is quite smooth still. They share a table and are fed the same diet and are bathed at the same time etc, any reason why Flo would have this and not Favela? Was wondering if there was anything I could do to stop it in its tracks lol I also spray their table twice a day.

I have exactly the same problem with Ronnie and Reggie. Reggie is not so smooth, he does have a split scute that is raised but he still isn't as smooth as Ronnie. Mine are the same age, share the same table, fed the same, they are from different parents though. xx

Hm I wonder what causes it. These are from the same clutch aswell..will just have to keep an eye on it i s'pose

It's most unusual to raise a really smooth hatchling in captivity especially if they are with others.You can only make conditions optimal in diet, temperature and humidity. I've got a lot of hatchlings this year and some have grown twice as fast as others.Those are the ones that you have to be extra careful with........

Yes...she is 42g and Favela is 36g when I weighed them on Friday. She has always been the slightly larger of the 2.

I've been keeping a close eye on my little ones too. Tabitha, the largest of the three juveniles, doesn't have quite as smooth a shell as the other two, though I wouldn't describe it as being overwhelmingly raised either. She is the largest though Florence has just about caught her up now. I guess all we can do is our very best to provide optimal conditions to try and prevent pyramiding and hope for the best.

I have the same starting with my sulcatas but it is the smaller of the two that looks as though she's starting to pyramid but they are totally unrelated.They both share a table and so you would presume that they would both pyramid or not as the case may be-perhaps genetics does have a roll to play.

Yes it is partially.

I've now had 3 lots of hatchlings from one female herman who grew very fast and bumpy and started breeding at 8 years.

Her hatchlings are always bigger and gain weight faster than those of the other mothers, especially the first one to hatch who can never wait to start munching! I have another small mother who produces very'compact' little hatchlings who develop perfectly.
