My first Redfoot Tortoise Eggs
We've been having some really nice weather lately. So nice that the tortoises are having a field day grazing, breeding... and laying eggs. My Redfoots finally calmed down enough to start laying eggs.
She started nesting at about 1pm EST. A couple of hours later she was still digging and the others started sniffing around so I set up the usual barrier. By 7pm it was getting cooler out and she had only deposited only one egg and I was surprised how huge it was. By morning she had deposited 3 eggs and never covered the nest. They barely fit in the nest as you can see. I'm pretty stoked by this because I've had the group for close to 5 years and I know others who have already hatched out babies from this other members of this group that I sold to them. I only hope I can claim the same come spring time.

The eggs have been removed and so has the barrier. I've got about 4 other females pacing but I don't know if it's because they are gravid or just hungry because it is so warm out.

Great news Ed and great pictures Hopefully they are fertile. Is this a normal clutch size for the others from this group?

This is my first so I don't know what 'normal' is but a friend who got a pair from me way back when just started getting eggs last year and this. She has had clutches of 1 to 3 eggs also.
The adults are only about 9 inches SCL. I hope they are fertile also. Thanks. Quote:
