Banging my head against a brick wall.
I may not have mentioned it before, but I am currently at university studying adult nursing. Today I am trying to write a critique of a research paper and it is making my head hurt. Why the hell do we need to do all these bloody essays to be able to become nurses?
So close to jacking it all in but after having a fantastic day on the ward yesterday, I really need to do this. Oh well, better get back to it, only 800 words to go and then I can start on the next 3000 word essay.

Good luck Abby, I've been there, if you enjoy the ward work, don't jack it all in! What year are you? Second if you're critiquing research? Though it's been a while since I left uni x

Spot on Becci. I am just over the half way point now.
I must admit I haven't been very good with my time management this trimester, I have had stuff going on in my personal life. I just need to get past the next few weeks.

It will be worth while in the end
Once you have qualified the additional courses are usually at level 6 Personally I don't understand why student nurses are expected to study at degree level Sadly the job goes beyond patient care now there is so much paperwork and standards to meet - wards are forever being inspected and audited Good Luck with it all Which hospital are you at? |

I am based at Eastbourne but I can get sent anywhere between Eastbourne, Hastings and up to Crowborough. Next placement I am at the Minor Injuries unit at Uckfield.
I am looking forward to being out of Eastbourne hospital as the staff morale is so low at the moment.

Keep at it Abby and well done. My (almost) sister-in-law is a nurse and she's currently looking into topping up her nursing qualification to a named degree.
My son is about to embark on his veterinary nursing but he's going to do it the diploma route and not degree. It's such a shame that nursing has changed so much. My dad was a psychiatric nurse for many years and his training was all hands on. Now the paperwork is immense. He's been hospitalised a few times in the past five years and the nurses seem to have so much paperwork to do and there's definitely not enough nurses on the wards, so keep it up!

It's the same for paramedics now. My OH is just coming to the end of the degree course that he has being doing alongside working full time. It was his choice to do it though, as he was already qualified before they brought in the degree. I admire you nurses, there seems to be so much more to it these days. I can remember when a caring nature was pretty much the only requirement! Hey Abby, guess where I work?! lol.
