The Last Tortoise
As we move to that time of year, when many of us are starting to think about a Summer holiday. What are the recommended books to take away and consume during those hours of unbridled leisure, or at least, keep us sane during the interminable wait at airports and mind numbing flights to the holiday beaches:
A newly published book; The Last Tortoise, "A tale of Extinction in our lifetime". Written by Craig Stanford and published by Belknap Harvard; ISBN 978-0-674-04992-5 Whilst the subject is depressing, particularly for those of us with a passion for these animals. The subject is dealt with in a highly informed and articulate manner. It illustrates the plight of this whole group of vertebrates whom in the last few decades have seen their 200 million year tenure on the earth plunge towards oblivion. Dear Forum members, if you read no other book this year relating to the Chelonian form, this one is a MUST, and should be on any wish list of essential reading for Shelled enthusiasts! |

Why on horseback? Are they cowboys, lol? I'd be delighted if someone delivered a book to me on horseback.
