I'll hermann tortiose
I've had him for 6 months. He is nearly 2 according to his papers. I have done everything correctly with housing heating etc. There is no specialist reptile vet near me. He is making weird noises not eating now. Mouth gapping etc. No fluids or bubbles from nose etc. I fear he is going to die. My other hermann is is great health. Is there nothing I can do?

I live in Scotland just outside Glasgow. Local vets do not treat reptiles I've tried. He was a very active tortiose. I just don't get why he is ill. I take extra care. I've been placing him under heat lamp to warm him up. He usually sleeps next heated glass pad. It's demoralising I did all my research for over a year before I got my set up etc. He was still eating up until a few days ago. Absolutely gutted

I'm sure there will be someone around soon there are some good tortoise keepers up your end of the world who might be able to help the only other thing I can suggest is to get a nebuliser and some f10 and try that.
Do you have him in a viv or on a table if a viv at this point in time it will be in your favour as you can shut it up and keep the heat on 24 hrs a day also keep him bathed in warm water. |

Good advice from Gordon. I would keep searching for a reptile vet, if he has a respiratory infection , you need to see a vet.

If you have a viv and can get some f10 you could also steam him with some a bit like we put some vick or something in a bowl of hot water and a towel over your head it would work the same way but make sure you don't let him anywhere near it to burn himself. |

Sounds like a respitory problem, especially with the gaping mouth, one of the best Reptile vets is in Edinburgh, can't remember what it's called, but it is part of the Vets University?
As Gordon mentioned temps need to be about 30-32c all over the table and the nebuliser with f-10 twice a day will help. Definetly needs the vet though ASAP. Andy |
