Default Any tortoises for sale in west yorks and surrounding area?

I am a tortoise novice,i have only cared for one for a few months previously but fell in love. I really want a tortoise of my own. Was thinking about buying from one online tortoise shop but have heard some dodgy things about them in some forums. Is there anyone out there who can help me out? I would much rather buy one from a breeder who cares about what he's selling and can advise me on the best care ect. I live in Pontefract, west Yorkshire but would be prepared to travel if there is anyone who can help me? Many thanks

Yes,horsfields are most hardiest and they forgive you easily some mistakes you might do.I have horsfield(that's my second one,I had one for 14 years but had to rehome due moving another country) and if I decide in the future to take another one then it certainly will be horsfield again.I love horsfields!!!
But many many people keeping hermanns and they say it's easy to keep them aswell so...It's up to you then...

This is the link for the shelled warriors breeders list
http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/sit...ders_List.html

No Yorkshire breeders on there sorry.

And this is a link from RFUK with links to a few other breeders lists
http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/shell...ders-list.html

And the tortoise protection group breeders list
http://www.tortoise-protection-group...vember2008.pdf

Hermans, Horsfield's, ibera and marginateds are some of the most common reccomendations for first time tortoise keepers. If you are interested in a tropical species many keepers say red's are ideal.

But basically if you do your research in to any species of tortoise and are completely comitted to providing the care and diet that that particular species needs, then it is possible to start with ANY species of tortoise

Good luck

Sorry forgot to add there are many unwanted tortoises for sale on sites such as gum tree or preloved.

If you do decide to rehome one off there, please be prepared. Many have the potential for health problems and many will have not been given the correct care or diet. But of course they do deserve a loving home.

Good news! I may have found myself my new tort! I am probably getting ahead of myself but Ive been intouch with a breeder in Sheffield. He has some horsefields. They are all currently in hibernation but he said if i could bear to wait he would put my name on one for when they wake up. I am just fine waiting to hear back from him with more details so fingers crossed. Also a lovely lady from east yorks has a baby which would be available in the new year!
As soon as i have it confirmed that there is definately one waiting for me the next thing is to sort out accommodation and get loads of advice! Does the tort table have to be brand new? Whats the best thing to feed them? I have so many questions but am definately getting ahead of myself. Please please get back to me mr and mrs tortoise breeder!
I'll keep you posted!
