Default Sonic Rat Deterrants

Are the sonic rat deterrents safe to use around tortoises. We had a rat problem during hibernation and have plans in place to make hibernation safe this year. A neighbour mentioned these sonic deterrents which emit high pitch frequencies. They tell me they work but I am not sure how these would affect a hibernating tortoise.

Tortoises only have very low frequency hearing (lower than humans). They will not be bothered by ultrasonic deterrents.

Didn't deter the vermin but really affected my tortoises. All eggs were fertile but dead in shell. Stopped once device was removed. So I wouldn't recommend them.

Oh wow. I always wondered. That's a real shame about the eggs.
