It looks nice and deep so hopefully that'll deter him from climbing too much. Looks good.

Looks very snug - what substrate have you used?

Not very happy with that to be honest the girl at the reptile shop told me the stuff we got was good for him, its like a dried grass stuff which he seems to like but I am a bit bothered that it seems to get stuck on his claws, he dug himself down in it last night and was very happy with himself. The other half is tortoise sand soil mix from pets at home. he seems to like that he loves digging in it.

I would maybe put more of the soil in there Cheryl. I think you answered your own question in your post just now. Keep a little of the other stuff but IMO, I would use more soil, with a bit of sand mixed in. A greater emphasis on the soil and nice n deep. Make mounds, keep the enclosure interesting - by adding hills, dips and mounds along with different substrate (crushed oystershell is another good one, they sell this in the SW shop here) will break up his line of vision and keep him interested. Maybe a spider plant, ok if they nibble the leaves and easy upkeep. I would embed the water dish in the substrate, maybe add a couple of small stones (if he is very small and the bowl big).. But overall..your on the right track xx

Also..I would try and get a digital thermometer with a probe. You really won't get an accurate temp reading for the basking spot with the round dial faced ones that the shops sell with the enclosures (as in pic 1) They aren't much money, around a tenner-ish. I think you'll definitely need one of these. xx

Hiya
Cheers for the help much appreciated, I have a probe thermometer as well but to be honest that one is in there because he likes looking at it, he was admiring himself in it yesterday lol or maybe just checking its warm enough for him. I have a couple of plants in there which may not have been on the piccies, a spider one and a pansy which he just about demolished tonight but can pop another in the pot if he does. Yeah he needs more soil in as well, had to do an emergency fix it with his house so had to just use what they had in the shop which for a reptile shop was not that much. Have some B & Q sterilised soil for his plants but don't want to put it in the house for him because I find it has alot of bits and stuff in it. Have been using the ready made tortoise stuff from pets at home up till now. It is quite expensive tho. Were is the best place to get sterilised topsoil? |
