Hi again Rach.If you want to see what a tubular heater's like lokk on B&q's website. They come in all different lengths and wattages, aren't expensive and don't need linking to a thermostat in a room situation.I,ve got 2 running in my side extension where I have all my tortoises boxed up on shelves(Now covered with a thick duvet)!!They keep the temps 6 degrees even in this current ice age so I'm pretty impressed.Indoors they would have quite an impact

Oh yes much cheaper. They simply use the same as a light bulb of a similar wattage.Think they range from 40watt to about 250watt.Believe it's 60 watt per foot of tube so a 5'one would be the hottest.

I've been checking them out and I think they wouldn't be hot enough for my needs, heating a fair sized room

i read the other day that torts have a very good detection of millibar pressure & humidity of the outside air even tho they are indoors. Therefore no matter how high you put the temps... they are still very aware of the outdoor conditions! In conclusion... there is bugger all you can do about it!

hi rach, just to throw my two penneth in.
i have a 120watt mega ray ay 12" above tortoise+ 100watt reflector spot 4" above tortoise, spot bulb is run by habistat turned up full and can get 32 degrees no problem.if you need more heat for basking just add another 100watt bulb through habistat (600watt load)in theory the habistat can run 6x100watt bulbs ,thats enough to cook tea.

Thanks Dave. Got myself a 100w spot + holder in case it gets too cold again this week, so got gear ready on standby.
