Well done for doing research first!!! Please dont buy from a pet shop, most are wild caught. Remember tortoises do not live in vivariums!!! Ask as many questions as you like we are friendly bunch only happy to help you

Hi Steve and the girlfriend,
Welcome to this great forum. There are several reputable breeders on the home page of this site if you are looking to buy your first tortoise, they are bred by members here and are captive bred. WARNING! There are so many rogue taders out there on the intenet and pet shops / garden centres selling these poor wild caught tortoises. So please avaoid them at all costs no matter how tempting it is to take one away when you see their little eyes looking at you, through the vivarium in the shop that they shouldn't even be in. Please don't be affraid to ask as mant questions as you want, no question is considered silly, as a tortoises welfare is paramount. Enjoy posting. Ade

Welcome to the world of chelonians Steve (& gilrfriend) . I'm fairly new to tortoise keeping too - but sooo glad i took the plunge and got Charlie. His keep is not difficult (as i was worried it would be) all you need is a little research and common sense, the right equiptment from day 1 and your away.
Please post any questions you have - no matter how small they may seem, some of the folks on here have a wealth of knowledge and are more than happy to share it with you. Good luck finding youself a tortoise |
