Default very disappointed

well the second opinion was worse than the first!
The so called expert asked me if he was a herman, then if i thought he was trying to hibernate????
She weighed him, he's 180g and gave him some antibiotics. She said he's too small for blood tests but he has slight yellowing of the gums which could indicate liver problems. Also he nodded his head while he was there and she said this could be a lung problem.

The most shocking thing i heard was that the diet of weeds calcium and limeflour was not balanced enough and he maybe better suited to pellets??????

And finally he is most likely depressed and missing his sister!

Oh dear, how alarming!! I would be concerned at a vet just giving antibiotics for no apparent reason - but then to recommend pellets, argh!!!

Probably worth going that bit further and seeing Hannah Bould.

I know some tortoises take a while to settle into a new environment and feel a little 'lost' if they previously had company though.

I guess all that vet schooling was wasted.

I have trouble understanding how the advice of a person who had the self disipline to go to all those years of vet school could so easily be dismissed.

Yes Ed, dont bring yet another thread down please! I think most people are aware of your opinions on pellets.

From my understanding this vet a) did not even know the species of the tortoise, b) jabbed it with antibiotics without doing any tests, c) hazzard a guess at a lung problem because the tort's head bobbed and then recommended pellets in favour of weeds.

IMO the tortoise section of her vet schooling was wasted! This poor tortoise has gone through an injection to have antibiotice administered, possibly unnecessarily - no one can justify that.

No no head bobbing can be quite innocuous/not a sign of illness.
