leopards and calcium
hello all,I have five leopard torts ranging from1 7/8" to 2 3/4" four areknown babcocki the largest was shipped as same but I'm positive its par par or a mix of the two.I supplement calcium regularly, but the larger tort is a fiend for calcium ha chews the cuttlebone, will eat it out of a bowl and hunts it out on the food tray.questions: would this appetite for calcium be normal too the species or could it be related too his growth rate since 10/30/10 he has gained 18gr and grown 3/4".he's up too 70gr.also should i allow him too intake all the calcium he wants or try too throttle his intake? thanx john

Aloha squamata. thats interesting that you have a tort that acts like that. I have partially raised many hatchling babcocki, but I have never encountered one like that. I have read that in the wild they will seek out stuff like hyena feces to feed on because of the calcium content.

For hatchlings the calcium intake should be high. There is a good deal of bone to develop.
Can you post a photo of the odd one? I'd be interested in seeing it. I can tell you if it's an intergrade or not. Who did thay come from? email me at epirog@comcast.net and I'll send you some notes that might be helpful. Quote:
