i'm sure it was shanghai zoo. this huge species of turtle is now down to two left in the world, both being near 100 years old, one under and one over. luckly one is of each sex and they i think are now housed together each in on half of an enclosure at the zoo.

i think about 60 eggs were laid and half are incubating with half left in the ground.

the chinese didn't even know much about the species, .. not knowing they were rare or anything ,the previous enclosure of one of the turtles looked pretty naff..

i only read it in the newsletter briefly so thats as much as i can remember but the pic of one of the turtles on the front page looked nice., couldn't get a view of how big it was bit apparantly these things are huge..

Neil.

I'm a member and delighted to be one. Aside from the usual tortoise group things they also do a lot for conservation. They were involved in bringing the Giant Yantze Turtle back from the brink (lets hope those eggs hatch).

I hope to some of you at the march shindig in milton Keynes

Hi Jeff. There is an option for 'Membership Enquiries' which enables you to e-mail your problem (just click on the link). I have just sent my application off. I presume they do it by mail in order to acquire your signature? Good luck!

Hi Jeff

If you email me privately I can send you a leaflet and form in the post as I'm on the Committee and have a supply here.

Thank you everyone else for your encouraging and positive comments.

Best wishes

Mary
