The main thing you need to do is make sure they can't dig out or get over the top the rest is really for your own eye as your tort won't care how it looks and will trash it one way or another.

Not really just big runs with plants and weeds and access to a large greenhouse they have water and food and somewhere warm to go and that's it. I used to make them all pretty but given up now as they just wreak it especially the horsfields.

If you can I would get on with it now and then it's settling down and you could get some seeds growing in there.

wow Vikki & Jan , I love these type of threads with good 'ol photographs capturing designs. Both sets look fab. The only thing I would say Jan is worth considering a gravel board or similar around the base so they can't see out- Horsfields in particular are little devils for climbing up and pacing sides. If they can see it on horizon they will want to get there.

When's the best time to get seeds in, Gordon? I have a few different types to sow but worried the rain/snow will rot them. Should I just get them in and leave it to nature?

March is a good time to sow seeds outside, they like a bit of cold to get started. Or in the autumn.

CB thanks for advice. We realised our 4" board was not high enough. What would be a good height? We need to do it for this pen and the one we are building.

Keith - when I first grew weeds I bought them on line and then grew in seed trays. Once they started appearing grew the next lot. I did not do this for long as I had plenty growing naturally.

Suze put a great link today to look at different housing on shelled warriors site.
