Adding new tortoises.

Hi, just wondering, i have two leopards, and my girlfriend has two, shes had hers for about 6 months ive had mine for about 3/4. Anyway cutting a long story short were planning on moving in together in a few months. So just wondering if theres any way best to intergrate them together, as dont want to cause stress or atleast as little as possible,
any help will be great

How many are males, how many females??
I do not keep leopards so in terms of integrating them....I cant comment. But plenty of people on here do own them, so are be better placed to advise.
It might be dependant on the male/female ratio, maybe another factor is that none are carrying any infection. There are probably other factors. See what others say, I may be incorrect. xx Good luck to you and your girlfriend, happy times ahead for you and your torts xx

Hi erm two males two females none are anyway near maturity yet though, they all seem healthy and have recently had vet checks so hopefully i think theyre shouldnt be a problem in terms of illness, and thank you

i would guess its just a slow introduction i normally quarantine them for 4 to 6 months then put them out side see how they get on if Therese not fighting put them together and keep an eye on them but i dont keep leopards so im not 100% sure

Ive heard leopards are quite gentle & not as agressive as other breeds re male/female ratio. But you would definately need to quarantine them, as its not just illness its pathogens too that either group would have no immunity to what the other group carries naturally. If you were to contact Danny - egyptian dan he could give you a good idea of length of quarantine, it does depend on a No of factors - good luck

See if you have had them for so long anyway you would of done the period to make sure no ill health, so I don't see when you move into your new house you can't just put them together straight away, what size table do you own? Or would you make a bigger one

Hi, yeh thats what i was thinking, my two's table is 4 and a half foot long and nerly 3 foot wide, however when we get our house im thinking of either extending or building a new one, depends on what we move into as if its possible i want to give them a downstairs room to themselves that goes directly into the back garden so they can do as they please.

Hi Oli9, don't suppose you and your girlfriend bought them from the same shop/place. If so they would have prob's been together before maybe.
If not you should keep the Leo's seperate for a quarentine period, moving and meeting new tort's can bring on stress, which can bring on illness, you will take a risk putting them together straight away, but it is your choice.
The Leo's are too small to be 100% on the sexing, and too small to fight alot i would think.

Hi yeh she did not sure how long they were together for but they were together when we got hers, i think we will have to just keep them in their seperate tables for a few weeks and go from there. thanks.
