Drinking..

Sorry for all the questions I keep asking about everything!!

Just wondered, how often torts actually drink? George sits in his water and I bath him every other day but i dont really see him drinking. Will bathing hydrate him enough?

as long as u keep bathing him u will be fine.
he will be drinking behind ur back, i rarely see mine drink, but now and again i will catch them

Faye,
If your concerned then you could always spray the weeds you offer, this will give the tortoise additional fluid

Yes they take in water in ways other than drinking but when in the bath he will probably be taking sips if you watch closely. Now and again you will catch him with his head right under the water for maybe up to a minute or more drinking. My ones don't drink a lot outdoors as there is more moisture in the soil

i worried about this for a while too. And in the 3 years i've had him, i must have only caught him actually taking a drink of water from his bowl about 3 or 4 times.

I sometimes run the leaves under the tap too and leave the droplets on, if i think they dont look luscious enough for him

I think they do that in MacDonalds with the lettuce

They don't... the only way any significant hydration occurs is through drinking. There are no pores... there is no cloacal uptake... or anything else... outside of drinking.

Humid hides reduce dehydration only because it reduces the loss of hydration via respiration.

To the OP... do you provide a water dish in the enclosure?
