thanks for that, so what have you done?, have you been able to replace his missing shell with something or was there enough to glue back on

jackie, its not a thick question, it may be me beening thick, but i think because its not near organs he may be alright

Its hard to believe that the owner was not aware the tortoise could be up.

Oh poor thing! but it must be so easy to make that kind of mistake especially if a partner doesn't know the torts are out or its in long grass, I do hope it survives please let us all know the outcome.

sorry for my spelling earlier.
The left lung is collapsed, there is a large tissue deficit. the thin white line up the middle is her spine. In addition there is a large split on the underside. I have stitched the holes going into her right lung and removed the grass and packed the area with antibiotic impregnated gel, and placed a body bandage to temporarily cover the deficit. weve given fluids, 2 types of painkiller and antibiotics. She is alive and can move her back legs but is shocked. once we have treated the wound, probably acrylic mesh and bone cement will be needed to bridge the deficit as the piece of missing carapace is lost. So fingers crossed eh!

Jeez that is one lucky tortoise, it's pretty horrendous but could have been much worse. Lets hope she gets over the shock and makes a speedy recovery.

Please keep us posted on her progress.

when something is that badly injured however do you decide when to put the animal to sleep, it looks far worse now its been cleaned, I assume the shell will never grow back? a little deeper and I suppose the tort would have been paralysed, I can't imagine how bad the owner must feel. I hope she pulls through.
