totally agree ! lots of rescues too. if you are scared of sudden mad dash movements and squeeeeeaaaals don't get the youngsters, like catching road runner if you need to hold them. Most of the olders ones I know are bit more laid back. They definitely need a friend even if they are in the next cage! Bev you must get some !!!!

Just a word of warning. They need plenty of room so a very large cage with a run for outside is advised. If you don't have the room then don't get a piggy.

Thankyou, I do have 2 rabbit hutches that I used for the torts and also a 6ft by 5ft cage that was purchased last year but not used will fit nicely against the fence under a very large shrub for shade. I have also looked at 2 tier guinea pig cages and am watching one for sale on eBay I have wanted a guinea pig for a few years, but got teddy the dwarf hamster instead, he looks old now so won't get the guinea pigs until after teddy (you know what I mean).
I like guinea pigs because they are awake and active in the daytime and they make noises and are friendly, I want an animal I can cuddle (teddy is a psycho and my dog hazel is not a cuddly dog) lol x

Sounds ideal Bev, all mine sleep outside in 2 separate hutches rain or shine and very often over the years snow. As long as dry and out of the cold wind they are pretty hardy little things snuggling up together. Some rescue centre frown a bit because there is a notion GP's should be indoors and some won't rehome unless you have an indoor set up. but there are thousands out and thousands in no doubt. I do have runs on the grass but these needn't be huge as too big is scarey. They are great fun. I would advise going to a cavy show as you will see all the different ones and they each have their own style dependent on short hairs curly hair (texels which mine are) and long hair so forth..... I hope Teddy does keep going despite a GP on the horizon ! CB

Thankyou, they will go outside when im at home but will be inside overnight and when I'm not at home, we have a lot of foxes round here.
I had a look at the cavy site and unfortunately none near me however, there are a couple of guinea pig rescue centres near me, I quite fancy the smooth coat with a few swirls, also like the tri coloured or dark x

I wish I had a picky of when they all sit on the sofa and watch TV just gurgling ! ha. You must do pickies X

I would love a guinea pig too. I love the noises they make, they are so funny. I'm not allowed at the moment though. One of my cats keeps catching rabbits and I would be terrified he would get at a piggie.
All of your photos are beautiful. |

I think if the cat lived separate to the hutch they would be ok ! ha ! I have heard the most hardened melt when they see these little creatures. They are so therapeutic but completely mad. My friend in NZ lived on a farm and just let them go nuts - she ended up with 100 odd - your cat would of had a field day !!! literally!
