New here - please help me decide :)
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a tortoise and am trying to decide on the species, I don't want to find I have inadequate space years after acquiring said tortoise! My back garden is huge so I don't have much worry there but my front room is getting pretty crowded, we have a toddler who has far too many toys I've measured and the biggest tort table we could fit in here would be 5ft by 2ft would this be too small for an adult tortie? Also are there species that don't hibernate? I'd be terrified I'd do it wrong and the poor thing wouldn't come out the other end. As you can see I'm still very much in the planning stage Bex |

Hi and welcome to the forum. A 5' x 2' tale could be big enough - but it would depend on the species of tort One's which do not hibernate, leopards, sulcatas etc would be much to big for a table after a while and need a great deal of space, heat through the winter etc. Spur Thighs, Hermanns, Horsfields are medium sized when adult, but many people hibernate these, subject to health weight etc. If you are looking for a non hibernating smaller/medium tortoise, I would suggest a Golden Greek or Tunisian for a table of that size. Sorry it's all a bit general, there are a lot of factors to consider

As Lynne said there are a few, golden greeks and Tunisians are smaller when adult Tunisians being the smaller of the two, not sure if you are thinking of getting an adult or a hatchling but i would recommend a hatchling as an adult probably wouldn't take to a table unless you know it was brought up on one.

Hello and welcome
Seems like some good advice! And am sure Mr G could help you find a very beautiful hatchling too!
