Wow what a response. I didn't expect to be welcomed so warmly, usually when people introduce themselves it usually goes unspoken. Thank you all very much! Life is great here in Wisconsin. The weather is wary however, two weeks ago Lenin was able to trot around outside now there almost a foot of snow! Something has to explain that!

I'm correct by calling Lenin a Horsfield's Tortoise, yes? Again I'm here in the states and he was coined a Russian Tortoise. I'm thinking its probably right, but its just what they call it here. I wanted to clarify though because I like knowing all that I can.

Thanks again for the warm welcome, I have already experienced the power of the community, something that I've been told is strong here from my friend who pointed me here. I'm awestruck.

Hi William, and welcome to SW. I spent five years in grad school at Madison many years ago - Wisconsin is a beautiful state (we used to go camping up north and it was fantastic). I was born in the States but have lived in the UK for a long time, so I speak both languages <g<. I have a horsfield too. Don't worry - for some reason this species has lots of names -- Horsfield, Russian, Central Asian tortoise, Steppe tortoise, Four-toed tortoise, Afghan tortoise -- but Horsfield and Russian are the most common, both here and in the States. Do post a picture of your tort - we love pictures on here.

Message for Steve (Dead Troll). Your new avatar, which being lovely and fantastic and all that, has seriously screwed up the margins on the thread. Could you reduce the size of it?

Cheers,
Nina
