I have read it affects their fertility/longevity but dont know if that's to discourage people from attempting it.

No, I can't say as I'd purposely do any hybridizing.
I would think most hybrids would be fertile Lynn, except for probably the Sulcata/Leopard and the Radiated/Redfoot. Hybrids of reptiles are different than hybrids of mammals. Hybrid reptiles are usually fertile or the females practise parthenogenesis (laying fertile eggs without males). Danny

I know this probably sounds pretty stupid so please excuse my ignorance but here goes: If a hermann needs an article 10 but a horsfield doesn't, what would happen with regards to any hybrid offspring?? I presume it wouldn't have a certificate as it wouldn't be pure hermann but would it even be legal??

Do you have a reference for the parthenogenesis. I'm sincerely interested in learning a little more on this.

Not in turtles or tortoises but in lizards (namely some of are Whiptails of the genus Cnemidophorus).
