Interesting observation, Ari's tail still does look like a female to me, it can be a domination behaviour, to find out who is the boss of the group. I have two of the same age, one is definetely a male, no doubt about it. Another one is expressing dominating behaviour, leg biting and ramming against one who is semi mature female, even a bit of flashing but something make me think she is a female despite all this randy behaviuor. It could be a territorial conflict.

Yes of corse, she probably is female, but she is a very quiet easily bullied tortoise so its strange behaviour to me, she's only being doing it recently, however she is only doing it to Tyler my smallest tortoise, and not lilly who is alot bigger than her. so she may be getting to be a stroppy teenager picking on the smallest one. Be interesting to see if I put her with my 2 big girls as an experiment and see how she behaves. I can't get rid of the feeling that she will turn out to be a he. Dan sexed her 3 times as female in a year but I will be back if things get longer, organ display any signs of male behaviour etc. x

Well I've been watching Ari like a hawk these last few days and she has been feeling fruity constantly, she has even been gyrating the soil then realising clear liquid, its a shame I didn't have my camera ready as she was really gyrating the soil just now so I picked her up and had a look and oh my I saw her sexual organ full out, it was huge on a thick long stalk with a reddish mushroom with 2 heads on it by the time I got my camera ready it went back in, so I'm going to keep my camera ready when it appears again x
