If you have some throw them in the bin. I had a mail from someeone showing me their marginated tortoise that they were very proud of. It was lumpy and flatter than a pancake tort. It had been fed on these smae pellets and lettuce It will not live long I imagine They were very annoyed when I suggested they took it to a vet to be checked out so I asked them if it could walk clear of the ground - they never replied. I imagine they are still shocked to see what has happened

Hi Chaza,
Nothing but weeds, weeds and more weeds is the best thing for tortoises. You can add variety with flowers such as pansies, petunias, laveteria etc... If you read the posts on edible weeds there are many plants listed there which are safe for tortoises to eat. Or go to the T-lady's site where there is even a printable booklet on edible weeds. Hope this helps. Ade P.S. Glad you asked for advice before you brought them bad pellets.

Hi Chazza, we have had this situation before with other tortoises who have come from other homes wghere their diet was less than nutricious to say the least.
Its a simple case of percerverence and being tough, you have to hold out and just feed the weeds, they won't starve as tortoises are programmed to survive on very little not like cats an dogs which need food daily. It is important to keep the tortoise propely hydrated though so you will need to give regular baths and eventually your tortoises will be eating all the weeds you want them to eat, and they will be all the better for your tough love approach. Give it a go, some tortoises have turned around within a week and circumed to a change in diet, but some may take a little longer. Ade

Yes calci sand is a big no no. It can cause eye irritation. It has been reported to be the cause of of gut impaction. It is also very dehydrating.
