Gravid without a male?
First is this possible with torts? I know some reptiles can lay infertile eggs without ever being with a male. Has anyone ever had their female lay eggs without ever having a male of their species?

I dont have experience of this but i read in a tortoise book yesterday that they will lay eggs (infertile obvs) if they haven't been with a male

It can happen and it's more likely to happen if you house 2 females together. I've housed 2 female Hermanns together and one female did the whole dominant thing (ramming, biting and mounting). This induced the mounted female to lay a clutch of infertile eggs.

As others have said perfectly normal and an indication your tortoise is ready to breed, so now you need a male?
