I actually left a job because of this, I had surgery on my hand, my job at the time was nursing elderly bedridden patients - obviously impossible with open wound on my wrist and a sling!!!!!
I had to have 10 weeks off!!I got constantly badgered, talked and bitched about and questioned by the ward manager, even though she had seen me several times and knew how incapacitated i was And this was the NHS.... questioning my surgery It made me so cross i handed in my notice I know exactly how you feel

Sounds like you are better off out of there.
Back to work interviews are good for emplyees as it is a chance to ensure that not only are you fit to work (believe it or not people do try to return too soon) and that there are no health and saftey issues when you return. I have a great relationship with my employer and have had two periods of long sickeness one last summer and Ive just returned after 6 wekks off with horrendus morning sickness. As a result of my back to work interview I have a new desk chair, flexible woking hours to make my commute easier, a new member of staff starting for my maternity cover in a months time as they want them fully inducted and me not to feel guilty with all the days off Im having and best of all a special sponge so I dont have to lick stamps anymore!! |

This makes me realise how lucky my husband is in his job. He has to have days off to take me to the hospital and days off if I am unwell and they just let him no questions asked. He doesn't even always have to book it as holiday.

Raise a grievance NOW - they cannot take a disciplinary measure on this basis if you have a genuine medical issue.

We also have back to work interviews and if you are off sick more than 3 times in a 6 month period then you get a stage 1 written warning.
We used to get no sickness bonuses in our wages but the recent change in wage structures in the NHS have stopped this and we now have the above, as apparently it is better for us the employees

I have an exit interview next week so will mention my feelings on the matter, but it really is one and dusted now. |
