Default Re: When and how are you hibernating your torts?

For those that I am hibernating I use a natural where I provide a substrate where they can bed down. For those that I'm not hibernating I'm just maintaining a healthy environment.

I will always believe that hibernation is not a necessity and have yet to be proven wrong. It's totally up to you if you would like to submit your tortoise to suboptimal conditions.

The species I maintain outdoors I let hibernate. Those indoors I don't hibernate. Those that are outdoors are following a natural cycle and those indoors are following a natural cycle for the conditions provided.

Again... occurs in the wild.

I'm sure you caught the point that that while some do hibernate naturally some of the same species do not.

Again it is not a necessity and it really is not natural in captivity. It is something they are force into.
