Default My AHT's!

Thought I would introduce you to my turtles.. They are African Helmeted Turtles.. AKA Sideneck Terrapin, Marsh Terrapin!!
They are both Female.. I think and hope!.. They are called Bloater & Billie.. Billie is my latest baby ive had her just over a month , I kept her seperate and ive just introduced her to Bloater, Who i have had for about 6months.. Both are rehomers..
Bloater came from fantastic guy who really knew what to do, however he was moving house and couldnt take her with him, She was in perfect health!
Billie is a bit different, The previous owner had done no research as to how to keep her, She was living in a very small tank, with no filters, heat or uv, with just a housebrick... The previous owner was told Billie was born with one eye, She has no ill effects with only having one eye, which is good..
Heres a pic.. ( sorry if its big, im new here so just working out how to do things!)

They paid little or no attention to each other which i thought that was fantastic..
And heres a pic of Billie Basking!

Nice thing about these turtles is the fact they do not get too big, I would say looking at the pic's that these are nearly adult.
Whilst some might use Gerald Durrells term LBJ's-little brown job's for these turtles, their permanent grin and plucky character makes them a favourite of mine, and a species I would honestly recommend to a new Turtle keeper.
Their African cousins Pelusious get larger however, and sometimes are mistaken for Helmeted Turtles in the Pet trade.

Thanks Geomyda, I thought these were the species I remember eating doves that came down to drink on an old wildlife film I saw as a kid but it must have been their bigger, badder cousins!
