Heat lamp and holder for travelling tort
Planning to take Pebble with us this weekend when we visit my sister in Devon. Unfortunately, his indoor set-up won't fit in the car, (well not if we want to take any luggage or kiddie with us!). I use an Arcadia D3 but it is wired to the cage so can't be taken with us.
My sister has an empty outdoor enclosure which he can use every day and, as the weather promises to remain hot and sunny, that will be loads of UV. However, night time is slightly more of a problem. For the last week he's been out in the garden all day in the sun. As soon as I bring him inside he buries himself and that's it. Don't see him again 'til morning. So I'm thinking of using a smaller plastic drawer, filling it with his normal graded topsoil and taking that for his 'bedroom'. He can also travel in that quite safely. So - to get to the point - I'm just pondering about a bit of extra heat for when he's inside, to wake him up in the morning for example. I have a free-standing desk lamp which takes up to 60W bulbs. Could I use that and, if so, what would anyone suggest I put in it? A 'normal' domestic bulb? A reflector spot? A 'proper' basking bulb? Sorry if that doesn't make much sense. |

If the holder can only take up to 60w then thats all the choice you have. I think you could get a daylight exo terra one for basking which gives a nice spectrum...but its if you can find one now, as its too late to get it online. They should sell similar in pet shops. But for now...a 60w should be ok for 'first thing in the morning'. He might be sat there for a bit though to if he is cool/cold first thing... xx Have a lovely time BTW.

Thanks Rach. Can't wait to get going.
I forgot to say that he will be coming inside at night. I'll pop to Pets at Home and see what they have. Thanks x |

We took Reggie away with us caravanning a week ago and took a 60w spot bulb. It was perfect and provided more than adequate heat. We put it in a normal bulb holder and adjusted the height as required.
Enjoy your weekend Paula |
