Day 6 - Cermic heat lamp?
Well it's been a few days since I came on here with my panics and worries, and I thought you'd be missing me lol
Pebble has be OKish. Temps have all been fine, in fact for us poor mere humans sometimes too warm. We've been keeping up the night time temperature, and indeed the cool end day time temp, with the radiator in the room. However, at times it's like a sauna and is no doubt going to cost and arm and a leg when our next heating bill drops on the door mat. In the daytime it's not so bad heating the room because it's we're in and out of it all day, but at night I think a ceramic heat lamp may be the more economical option to maintaining a reasonable temperature for Pebble. So... which one should I go for? At the mo we have Arcadia D3 combi in a guinea pig cage. We've cut a hole in the top of the cage and the combi is in a wire bulb holder which we've attached to the cage. We have no thermostat. |

You have a choice of ceramic bulb's these are ok
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100-WATT-CERAM...item415762730f Best used with a thermostat like the habistat. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HABISTAT-TEMPE...item1c09360edd Product's may be found cheaper on line.

I followed Paul's advice when I was thinking about night time heating and it's been fantastic, a huge help! Have a look on Ebay for a habistat and you might find a bargain like I did.

Cool (or not ). Will get back to ebay.
What kind of holder do you need? Just the base to screw the bulb into or one with a shde/reflector type thing like my D3? |

No the heat mat is instead of a ceramic, it's a choice/price thing. I use ceramic, if a heat mat is used it is best out the way of the tortoise. Sorry to confuse the post. Again

I initially bought one of the cheaper ones like that one on Ebay but didn't think it was giving out enough heat so splashed out for a Komodo one. With hindsight though, I think that the cheaper one was working just fine but I had a faulty thermometer that was giving dodgy readings Anyway, that was all sorted out and now the night temperatures are good and stable without having to leave the central heating on!
