Pebble the Hermann - Our new tort
Here - at last - are some pics of our set-up and a teeny glimpse of Pebble. OH and kiddie went and picked him up at about 4 this afternoon. He has spent most of the time under the lamp basking, but made a few forays into the middle areas of the enclosure and had several attempts at climbing the sides of the cage. We moved the cork log down a bit in case Pebble fancied climbing on that. Instead he dug down underneath it and went to sleep. He's been there ever since. (We moved the log and put a tunnel over him instead so he could climb and topple over near the lamp.) Any suggestions/corrections/advice would be very welcome. I'd hate to get anything wrong. It's looking a bit sparse in there at the mo but we'll add more bits and bobs tomorrow when we can hunt for big stones, get plants pots, etc. The lamp is an Arcadia D3 160w Temp was up to about 33.4 directly underneath. Do we need any other UV or heat? He has food and water available but hasn't had anything since we brought him home. Oh and one more question, how soon til we should start bathing him? OK I'll stop now. God - aren't torts cute. So, so glad we have him Last edited by ethelandedna; 26-02-2011 at 08:26 PM. |

Your cage setup looks very nice. Good job planning all ahead. Pebble looks sweet shame the photos are tiny. Different substrate areas and lamp in wire holder, ceramic hides all great.

Hopefully these will be a bit bigger. My photo hosting is with Flickr and I didn't want to start with Photobucket as well if I could help it - just had to find the right URL code. Cool end now at 19.3 deg and lamp has been off since 7.30ish. |

I think this is a lovely setup
It is fab that he has shown interest in his surrounding already, some tortoises can take upto 4 weeks to settle. I would bathe him in the morning and then feed him straight after and see how you get on, if he goes all shy then just leave him be and he will come round. Welcome to Shelled Warriors xx |

Here are some photos of the little chap. Sorry they're a bit yellowy but the flash reflected off the cage. |
