Default Bad manners!

My Horsefield has developed some unpleasant table manners! I always feed on slate, as I’ve read it helps to keep beaks in good form. He has now taken to poo-ing on the slate when he has finished eating! I put in a second piece of slate – but no joy. Wherever the food was, he poos! Does anybody else’s do this?

Also, what is the best thing to use to scrub the slate? At the moment I am just using water, but I’m sure I should be using something else. Thanks.

Like most animals (including us) digestive systems are fairly simple.. as it goes in one end, something inevitably will coem out the other!

A good scrub with a little disinfectant will do the job

Thanks Lowe!
I wasn't sure if there was a tort friendly product that I should be using.

eating and defeciating at the same time is normal
behaviour, in the wild they eat the fresh leaves off the plant and "water, and feed"
the plant at the same time

Hi Mango,

Several tortoise keepers here including myself disinfect with Milton the same stuff you use for babies bottles etc...

If its safe for babies will definately be safe for tortoises.
