Question Keeping tortoises together

I have a male herman tortoise, I think he's about 3 years old? He's about 8cms. I have seen the cutest little tortoises in a pet shop and really really want a little baby one! They're so teeny weeny. Lol. Would he be okay with a little one in there with him? Also if I got one and it could go with him should i get a male or female? Thanks

hi,im tempted aswell to get another but you cant put them together for at least 6months and also you can't tell what sex they are until they are about 6 years old iv already got 2 and one i thought was a male is infact a female and the other is only 3 and so not sure what he or she is yet,so if you decide to go ahead you will need a spare table to house it and im not sure buying from a petshop is a good idea your best looking at a uk breeder if possible.they are cute though when they are young.

Yeah my mum knows a lady who breeds tortoises, i'm jsut keeping my fingers crossed that she has some hermans. Although getting another place to put it could be a problem.. we don;t have very much room in our house. Although I suppose soon Dylan can be outside so the little one could go in his house while he isnt in there couldn't he?

I suppose he could go in dylans house while he is outside do you leave him out all summer?i wish i could, when i put my 2 out i have to bring them back in the house when i go out incase someone pinches them,i cant lock my outside enclosure and i wouldnt rest if i didnt take them back in the house.Your right though to see the lady your mum knows who breeds them, good luck hope it goes ok for you and keep me updated.

Well i've only had dylan for six months, i got him for my birthday. We haven't made him an outdoor enclosure yet as my mum can't decide where we should put it. She loves teh garden, it isnt very big and any space there is is taken up by her flowers etc. Lol. I'm not sure how long he'll be outside for but yeah i'm also worried about him getting pinched! We could probably like padlock it shut somehow..

Im sorry doodlebopper but it really sounds like your rushing into a new tort :\ You cant really get another one until your know the sex of yours, which you wont if its three years old, unless your 100% prepared to keep them seperately longterm if you have two males.
Also 100% breeders, not pet shops

That's so unfair. Well.. maybe in time I will forget how small and cute the little tortoises were.. and won;t want one so much. Lol. Why do they have to be so cute!?
