It's a female Eastern Hermanns, T.h.boettgeri. It's one of the few times you will see a Hermanns without a split supracaudal scute (as her's isn't split).

Hard to say exactly how old she is, but she is at least 65 years old and probably more like 75 or 80 years old. Her claws aren't grows back because she wore them down past the quick (the growing part of the nail) and unfortunately they won't grow back now.

, shame about the claws, is there any thing that should be done as the front right leg is really sore where she is still walking and digging with it?
My sisters neighbor did recently take her to the vet as they insisted on doing a pre hibernation check. The herp vet told her that the tortoise was with out doubt male and at lest 150 years old!! just goes to show experience is the better all rounder xx |

Might try a rubber finger tip like these http://www.google.com/products?q=rub...ger+tips&hl=en They should protect the end of her leg and are easily changable. Probably should get the vet to prescribe a topical antibiotic ointment to put on the leg and than the rubber tip. That way things can get a chance to heal.
