Your tortoise's favourite food?
What is your tortoise's favourite food?
Herbie (Hermann) loves dandelion, dandy flowers, sowthistle, watercress and plantain. She also loves pumpkin, butternut squash and cucumber, but is only allowed these as a special treat. What does your tort love?

Torty has little fads. She was mad about mimulus then decided she'd had enough. Then it was nasturtian but the frost killed them. Sometimes she loves dandilion leaves, sometimes she's not too fussed. I think she just likes me to work hard finding different varieties At the moment though she is loving Sowthistle. She is pretty good though and will eat mostly all her greens. She doesn't like dandi flowers though.

My Hermans are partial to Sow Thistle. Flower wise, Gazania's. They also go mental for their occasional squash or pumpkin (probably cause its a treat). They can also reduce an Aubrieta to its roots in minutes in the Summer.
Oh and they love the Sedum Sediform. It's interesting that they seem to go through fad's. Mine will eat Mallow leaves in the spring but leave them in the Autumn. I wonder if the chemical composition of the leaves changes through the year, making them taste bad (?) Last edited by Kirkie; 27-11-2008 at 06:11 PM. |

I would say Dandelion's favourite is dandy flowers and stalks. Baxter loves pansy flowers.
For a treat, they both go absolutely mad for radicchio, but they don't get it very often!
