Thanks everyone for their help so far, now I'm going to add a few pics so you get the complete set-up.

John If you could please take a look and tell me how you would light the viv and the table it would be most appreciated.

The first couple of pictures are how Marley (my tort) has spent his/her last couple of winters. There is a doorway so he could wander from the viv to the table and back.
John as you can see I had one of your floods in the viv and I was very pleased with it. Also had an Arcadia 3D on the table.

This set up was in the living room... just about the warmest room in the house and it worked very well

My tort is now 5 years old and approx. 3 and 1/2 inches big. Weight around 220 grams.

This year the whole set up is being moved upstairs to the spare room which is unheated... hence the bigger vivarium.
The room is south facing though and I have put the position of the tortoise table where it will get what sunlight there is through the winter.

Now here's for the second couple of pics. Firstly the viv (four foot) I have a ceramic bulb for heat. I have hung this on a hook that was already there (I can move it). I thought this could be the warm end... because as you may be able to see at the other end for ventilation the previous owners installed a computer fan. This actually does blow around a little cooler air and for that reason I thought this should be the cooler side.

Still with me

Last pic just the table and viv together. Table size 20 inches by 31 inches, so not very big but it will give my tortoise a choice of getting out of the viv should he want too. In the smaller lamp holder there a Arcadia 23 watt, 7% reptile lamp. This is quite a new bulb, only used for about 2 months so there's a bit of life in this one.

Thanks in advance for any help. It would be great if I could have feedback on what other members would do also.

Anita

I love the way you have joined the viv onto a table so the tort has a choice. Fab idea! I'm wondering how I can incorporate a viv somewhere next to my table now as I struggle to keep temperatures up after the summer is over. Think I will need to extend my own house first

Thanks, space is the reason it's all being moved into the spare room. I haven't been able to put up a Christmas tree for the past 2 years!
Doing the viv/table thing has really worked for me... I find the tort spends most of it's time in the viv especially when it's dark and cold. But I always put it's food and water on the table side. He knows where to find it and you don't have to keep opening the viv doors

Thank you very much
I have a habistat day/night dimmer thermostat.

I have just ordered a flood stand and a replacement bulb from Swell Reptiles
The Slimline Vivarium Canopy and T5 Lamp - 39 Watt is out of stock though, so I have asked for a notification email for when they come in.
