Default Terrapins in the park

Thought I'd share this photo of terras in a local park, taken Friday morning. I saw 6 altogether, 4 female RES and 1 female YBS, and a single male RES. The biggest females I saw were approx 10"-11".
According to the park warden who told me where to find them there are 30-40 in the lake, when they catch them in other local parks this is where they put them!
This is the legendary "lake full of terrapins" that I've heard of many times over the past 20 years.

Excellent post, thanks so much. Fascinating that these amazing animals are so hardy they can survive our cold winters.
I could spend so long just watching them in this natural habitat. Thanks again

where is this lake??
It's in Chiswick (West London), it's Carville Hall Park which is a very small park right alongside (almost under!) the elevated section of the M4.
I've known about it for years, but always assumed it was in the nearby Gunnersbury Park as I knew they had some terrapins in their lakes, but I'm planning a visit there in a couple of months time for a group of terrapin enthusiasts and thought I'd better check they were still there. It was one of the park wardens who told me this lake had a lot more in it.

While I'm at it here's a photo of my own terrapins in the garden...

From left to right that's Passion my 14 year-old female Southern Painted, Milligan an 8 year-old male Southern, and Temple a Red Belly of unknown age as she's a rescue, I suspect she's no more than 3 or 4. I have lots more photos of them if anyone's interested.
