Insurance
Do any of you insure your tortoises? Is it worth it? And are there any companies you recommend?

I think most put some money aside for emergency's, I know one insurance I enquired about would only insure for the price you paid for the tort ie £100 for a hatchling. That meant that although the torts value might go up a lot as an adult ie breeding female, you couldn't ever change the value so £100 would be what you got regardless. Also as most torts don't pay the vet a visit very often, mine never did in the 6 years I had them, is it really worth paying for it, the only thing I would have taken it out for would have been the replacement value should anything happen but £100 wouldn't replace a adult female. You couldn't put more as the value as the company knew how much a hatchling/young tort costs.

Putting a suitable amount away each month is the way to go. This way you can build up a good amount if needed. If you don't need it, then its in your pocket not the insurance company. Even better if you follow good advice raising your tortoise, as they are really hardy creatures, and if kept properly then may never need a vet:0)

I thought that might be the case. That's what we do with the dogs. I'll just add a bit more for the tort I need to find a reptile vet too...
