Hi. Is the table a bought one, are you saying the bulb holder is attached. For the basking bulb a thermometer is needed to record what temp directly under the bulb/basking area, a little difficult to advise without seeing setup. A smaller wattage bulb can be used lile a normal 75w spot bulb from DIY stores, again a thermometer to check the temp after the bulb has warmed up total.

We bought a clip on heat lamp with the bulb, so it clips over the top. Its roughtly 9 inches away from the tortoise's level. And it was made by my girlfriends dad, its not store bought or anything.

Any suggestions on how long to keep the lights on for? I was told to keep the 100W Infra Red basking bulb on 24 hours a day, and to keep the UV bulb on for 12 hours a day.

Should the tortoise be going to sleep near the bulb?

light for 12 hours a day. everything depends on what the temperatures are on the ground below the bulb and the room temperature during the day and at nights
