Who's the Daddy?
I was wondering if anyone knows how long horsfiled females can retain sperm and also if they can use that for more than one batch of eggs.
I got two mature females in April 2012 and last June she laid three eggs which were all fertile and hatched successfully. My first eggs! Because my boys didn't have the mating thing down properly I strongly suspected that a previous boyfriend had been the daddy. Well the same tortoise laid three eggs today. I was wondering if they were to be fertile if it was possible that this lot would be from retained sperm or if one of my lads has actually at long last succeeded. |

If they are all fertile it's most likely one of your males thats the father. If less than the 3 are fertile than it's most likely retained sperm.

I was curious about retention of sperm in female horsfields too, good luck with the eggs wanda and looking forward to piccies of the hatchlings x
Unfortunately my male Spart CAN do the business, but traumatises my females too much so he ends up in my garden on his own and my females will never lay eggs x

Update! All three eggs are starting to chalk up already (day 2), so according to Danny at least one of my lads has come of age! Yay!
