Eggs - is it too soon to tell
One of my horsfields laid 3 eggs 2 days ago. She dug a lovely nest and covered them after acting 'eggy' for a couple of days. Have them in the incubator at 30 c although still struggling to get, humidity levels stable and correct.
Anybody fancy telling me if they look like duds or not? Egg 1 Egg 2 Egg 3 |

They all look fertile to me as they have started "chalking".

Is that the blackish spot at the top? Brilliant - my first ever eggs!
I a, very surprised because I got this female last year and I am not sure my boys have quite got the idea yet ..... Sideways frontwards diagonal and occasionally backwards but with no err starship enterprise being engaged if you k ow what I mean. Perhaps this was from a male she mated with before she came to me. Nevertheless, very excited. Can you tell me optimum humidity please, Dan? Also what is the very earliest that they could hatch. Desperately hope it is after I return from holiday as I wouldn't want to miss it for the world |

Humidity should be 75 to 80%. Hatching times depend on temperature, but average is 60 to 70 days at 31C.

Congratulations on your first eggs. It's so exciting isn't it? I had my first egg this year and the whole process was amazing. Enjoy!

Thanks Emma. Yes it is, I just want to keep looking at them and I can't wait!
So did your eggs hatch out and all go smoothly ... And do you still have fingernails ? |

It was a nerve-wracking time but well worth the wait. This thread is about the last few days of waiting and then the egg hatching. http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=68849

Great thread and what a cute little one! I just know I am going to be just like you when the time comes, with the exception that I WON'T be doing the ironing.
I can't believe that since last night mine have changed and I can now shine a torch through the little window and if I angle it just right I can see. The little dark chalking spots have got bigger for sure so something is happening ! Ho hum another 50+ days of this ....... !!!!!! |

I only candled once a week through most of the incubation period and then only a little more often towards the end. I worried about the temps and humidity dropping. I was a real worrier, but despite my impatience at the end, Chester made it here safe and well and I was pleased he'd absorbed his yolk sac while in the egg too.
Hopefully everything will go really well for your eggs too. Please let us know how they develop and I look forward to hatchling photos in about 8 weeks to 9 weeks.
