Hi Mark, I'm not sure but I think their adult size can vary, THB are the largest of the Hermans , the females can get very large , but my two are quite small, both very old , the female is about 6 1/2 inches, SCL, and the male is only about 4 1/2 inches , the males are usually smaller. Hope this helps, so if splat is 5 inches at 11 years he is a good size, just check his weight.

Ive just weighed him hes 530g Im pleased to hear that hes about the right size. Im giving some serious consideration in to breeding in the next few years there are definately future plans as i still have ALOT to learn !
Do you all have slight lumps on your tortoises ? i wwas told by the vet he has a nice smooth shell but it has some very slight raised humps but these arent too noticeable really and theyve beeen like this foor years infact as long as i can remember ! i will take more pics and some larger pics after bath time for them

My old Herman male is close to 100 years and was surely wild caught, but he has a slightly bumpy shell. Lets see some bigger pics of yours.

Yes it's a lovely thought, to pass them on down the generations, I have mine since I was 7 years old, nearly all my life, they are VERY precious to me.
