hi Pammie, I am no expert, but we have wireless. We have one main computer and the 2 girls have laptops each. When I went wireless I got all the stuff directly from AOL as we were with them anyway....BUT the router we were sent from AOL is a NETGEAR and you can get these in Argos, they start from £59 I think. At least you know it will be compatible with AOL.
hope that helps a little bit

me againb...just another thing. if your grandaughter is already on AOL like i was, and she needs the router, just ask for it direct from AOL...and while i was on to them, ......i got my monthy subscription reduced by £5 a month, cos if you sign up now its cheaper, i just said i wanted to pay the same rate as everybody else, they didnt even blink an eyelid, just have to ask...only wish i had done it sooner
Let us know how you get on.... anymore help or assistance just shout Kirstine

bacially a router is what sends the wireless connection. this needs to be conncect to a internet connection such as a router running through ur main computer that has a internet port. u really want either a netgear or linksys one as they seem to have the best constant connection. these also have a good radius. of course ur laptop will have a built in wireless reciever, it doe snot matter what internet provider u are on as they work with all , some may need tweeking tho but thats simple. but ur internet provider will actually get u one that is best for your requirments......or pc world sell them and fit them (slightly ove rpriced but they set everything up for free which works out better if ur a novice).
don'y no much abt thes emy self but my brother builts computers and such so i ahve picked up abit. |
