You more or less have to ignore the incubaters readings or learn to read the adjustment, I never knew why they didn't have their reading taken from inside and it was only because someone else had told me that I read the small print about the temp differences in the leaflet.
The breeder I got my youngest tort from, incubates at 33 to get females.

ok I understood 32c to be the max but maybe I'm wrong, anyway I always played safe and had them all hatch. Even incubating higher you can't garuntee they will all be females its just a higher probability and of course you won't know for certain for a couple of years.

I have a digital thermometer and a digital hygrometer/thermometer in the incubator. They are both pretty much the same with their readings. The incubator temperature reads 32 degrees and both the digital ones read 32.3. They've never gone up as far as 33 degrees. I know it's not an exact science and I also accept that by incubating at a higher temp, it doesn't guarantee females. I shall be keeping any hatchlings for myself though and so although it would make life a little easier if they were female, they'd still have a loving home here even if I have more males.

I'd read that 34 and 35 degrees led to a higher chance of deformities but thought 32-33 was reasonably safe.

Tabitha laid a second egg last night. She didn't dig a nest this time though so I'm not sure if it'll be fertile or not. It's in the incubator and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Egg number one has the 'ring of life' now.

Anyone know if you can have eggs with (seemingly) no yolks inside? They weigh about 16 grams each.

Maybe starting your own thread might get an answer. We are just amatures here.

We might be amateurs, but we're very professional about it
I will start my own thread.
