Incubator Experiment
Hi, not sure if anyone has tried this before?
Iv put a thermostatic controlled heat mat raised on a cooling tray over 2 bricks, a tray of dry vermiculite & a bowl of water on the middle shelf of a fridge. Set the heater to 31oC and have a thermometer/ hygrometer in there and I'm going to monitor it for a while to see if it would work as an incubator. Fingers crossed

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
What about the air exchange? X

There is a small gap (where the wires go through the seal) in the top left corner not sure if that's enough? But guessing I'll need to open the door a little each day to let air in?
I don't have any experience or knowledge with incubating yet but just trying out this method in case I get any eggs in the future.

Good idea, hope it works, be great if it does, I've got quite polysteryne boxes with lids of various sizes in my loft, if I ever get eggs, then I will be making my own too, I'd love to try and incubate eggs and see them hatch, maybe one day lol x

You might want a bigger heat mat

I agree The heat mat probably isn't going to cut it. Even if it manages to reach the desired temperature, once you open the door all the warm air will escape and it will take ages for the fridge to warm up again.

Like Ross and Gordon said you may need a larger heat mat or a different heat source. You could even use a small CHE to heat the fridge.
